Fantasy fans and longtime travelers of the Forgotten Realms have big news to celebrate. Ed Greenwood, creator of the Forgotten Realms campaign setting, has officially announced RealmsBound, a new series of interconnected books launching in Q1 of 2026 on the Dungeon Masters Guild. This multi-year initiative will delve into Faerûn region by region, offering some of the most detailed Realmslore ever published (Greenwood Patreon, 2025).

RealmsBound is produced in partnership with Mythmakers Studio, led by Creative Director Eric Menge, a veteran Realms designer known for his deep lore expertise and decades of work in tabletop gaming (Mythmakers.com). According to Mythmakers, the project will feature both established Realms authors and rising writers contributing new insights while maintaining the lore-respectful tone Greenwood is known for.

The First Region: The Dalelands

The inaugural RealmsBound releases will focus on The Dalelands, one of Faerûn’s most beloved and storied regions. The lineup for 2026 includes a quarterly slate of books (Mythmakers.com/RealmsBound):

  • Guide to the Dalelands (Q1 2026)

  • Inn Sites of the Dalelands (Q2 2026)

  • Delves of the Dalelands (Q3 2026)

  • Adventures in the Dalelands (Q4 2026)

These books build on the groundwork set by Adventures in Faerûn and Heroes of Faerûn, two upcoming 2025 releases from Wizards of the Coast. While those books reintroduce Realms content under the modern Dungeons and Dragons ruleset, RealmsBound is positioned as a deeper, lore-heavy expansion driven directly by Greenwood himself (DungeonsAndDragonsFan.com; BellOfLostSouls.net).

Canon Status and Why RealmsBound Matters

Although RealmsBound is not published by Wizards of the Coast and therefore is not considered formal “canon” in the strict corporate sense, it carries immense weight within the Realms community. Ed Greenwood remains the original architect of Faerûn, its history, pantheon, cultures, and tone. His third-party Realms writing has long been regarded as spiritually authoritative by fans because it reflects the creator’s intent and expands directly from his personal library of lore.

This makes RealmsBound especially significant. For the first time in many years, fans are getting new, creator-driven Realms material that reflects Greenwood’s vision without corporate limitations or restrictions.

Ed Greenwood and the Epic Realms Community

Ed Greenwood has been a longtime friend and supporter of the Epic Realms community. He has appeared multiple times on the Epic Realms Podcast, taken part in Live Action RPGs, and joined discussions on GameMasters Workshop, offering wisdom, humor, and the infectious enthusiasm that has made him one of tabletop gaming’s most respected voices. For many fans in our audience, this new RealmsBound initiative feels like a return to form from someone whose work helped define their earliest gaming experiences.

A New Journey Begins

In his announcement on Patreon, Greenwood describes RealmsBound as “a new saga within the Forgotten Realms” that will explore each region with unprecedented depth. He emphasized that the Dalelands are only the beginning, and that the project will continue annually with brand-new regional releases. His full announcement and ongoing updates can be found at Patreon.com/EdGreenwood (Greenwood Patreon, 2025).

For those eager to follow development, previews, and future release details, Mythmakers has launched a dedicated hub at RealmsBound.com, where fans can subscribe to a newsletter for updates and exclusive content (Mythmakers.com/RealmsBound).

With RealmsBound, readers and Dungeon Masters alike have the chance to return to Faerûn guided by the man who built it. Whether you are a lore historian, a campaign builder, or simply someone who loves the Realms, 2026 is shaping up to be a landmark year.
